QR code map for a mini golf course (Puttly)

Where to put Puttly QR codes so guests can start a game and move between holes on their own.

Level: SimpleTime: 30–60 min

What it is

Puttly is a digital mini golf scorecard. Guests scan a code with their phone camera, enter names and keep score without a paper card or an app install. For that to work, the codes have to be in the right places.

Where to put the codes

One code for reception and one at each hole. Example for a nine-hole course:

ReceptionEntrance123456789
  • Start code: where guests begin a game
  • Hole code: moves the game to that hole
  • Play route in numbered order

If a guest scans a hole code before starting a game, they see the start screen. Once a game is running, later codes work immediately.

How to mount the codes

  • Reception: the start code where guests wait for a club and ball. Add a caption: “Scan with your phone camera”.
  • Holes: one code at the tee of each hole, facing the player, at eye or hand height.
  • Weather: laminate, a sleeve or a UV- and rain-resistant sign. The code must not curl or bend.
  • Numbering: check that the number on each code matches the hole number on the course.

Test the whole path

  1. Scan the reception code, enter two names and start a game.
  2. Scan the code at hole 3. The game should jump to hole 3.
  3. Repeat the test on mobile data and on guest Wi‑Fi, including the weakest spot on the course.
  4. Keep a spare set of codes at reception.
